The sea.

“…big blue wobbly thing
that mermaids live in….”

This classic line from the comedy series ‘Blackadder’ has been lurking in the back of my mind since I was about 12. I suppose that shows two things:

1. that I’ve been in love with all things big, blue and wobbly for a very long time, and

2. I have excellent taste in comedy.

This blog is the sum of several aspects of me.

Sea + passion + communication + science + my kid = bbwt

I have a deep passion for nature, especially nature in the ocean (but I do try not to pick favourites).

I have a love of introducing people to the infinite awesomeness of nature and marine life (which I discovered after accepting a job as a tour guide on a barrier reef island. Lucky!)

I believe social media can disconnect some, but unite others. This unprecedented method of communication can be a cool mix with the natural world, especially when amazing photography and video are included.

Appreciation and respect for the scientific process and evidence is too low at present, especially on the interwebs, and if you declare something, you should be able to back it up somehow.

I need to tell my daughter that I did my best to make her world every bit as beautiful and wondrous as the one I discovered.
